They were in a deep sleep, yet sounds, such as a teakettle whistle and a cat's meow, somehow penetrated their slumber.
The 25 sounds presented during the nap were reminders of earlier spatial learning, though the Northwestern University research participants were unaware of the sounds as they slept.

"But while you may be able to replace some of that lost sleep each weekend, you can still be sleep deprived, and your 'sleep debt' will just keep growing."

An Eau Claire man found guilty in 2004 of killing an infant girl is asking for a new trial.
Eau Claire attorney Michael M. Rajek filed a motion last week requesting a new trial for Eric D. Arneson, 30, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for first-degree reckless homicide.
Rajek's motion alleges that Arneson's previous attorney, Richard Wachowski, provided deficient counsel during the June 2004 jury trial that resulted in his client's guilty verdict.
